Preventive care may not be an exciting thing, but when it comes to your teeth and gums, the less excitement, the better. At Hamilton Smiles, it is our goal to keep you cavity-free and gum disease-free, too. It may not be possible to do that 100% of the time, but with the right prevention strategies, you can enjoy the peace of mind to know that you are experiencing the highest level of oral health possible.

Our Hamilton dental office recommends that you have a twice-yearly session here for a complete examination and a teeth cleaning. Why? Checkups and periodic x-rays allow for detection of cavities while they’re small enough to fill easily. When cavities get large, they increase your risk for a toothache. You may end up with your inner tooth becoming infected, which would then result in root canal. And you could end up losing the tooth altogether. The second reason for six month visits to our Hamilton dental office is that you’ll have a teeth cleaning performed. You remove plaque daily with brushing and flossing, but tartar can buildup as the result of plaque that escapes your oral hygiene efforts. Tartar is a hardened type of plaque, and cannot be effectively removed with brushing and flossing. But it can and is removed with a teeth cleaning. That means that you decrease the risk of future cavities and gum disease. Any existing early-stage gum disease is reversed with a teeth cleaning, though a second cleaning may be necessary in particularly stubborn cases. Putting the brakes on gum disease right then and there means you won’t have to contend with the advanced stage and the impact of it, including receding gums, persistent bad breath, and bleeding while brushing.

Our Hamilton dental office makes preventive care a high priority. If it’s one for you, also, then please reach out to us right now and arrange an appointment.
